Dhadak 2 Opens to Mixed Reviews Despite Strong Performances

Dhadak 2, starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, has finally hit theatres, and early reactions from audiences are pouring in.

Marketed as a spiritual sequel to Dhadak (2018), the film is an official remake of the critically acclaimed Tamil movie Pariyerum Perumal. Directed by Shazia Iqbal, the film explores caste-based discrimination through the lens of a love story between two college students from different caste backgrounds.

While Triptii and Siddhant’s heartfelt performances and the emotionally charged second half earned praise, several viewers felt that the storyline was too predictable and formulaic. On social media platform X, reactions have been mixed. One user commented, “Dhadak 2 could’ve been a box office gem, but it ends up being the same fight-against-society formula. Old wine in a new bottle.” Another noted, “Sharp writing, great performances… but it misses the soulful music that made the first part unforgettable.”

Some cinephiles even chose to skip the film after discovering it was a remake. “I watched the original just two days ago—no need to watch a remake,” one user shared.

Despite the criticism, many viewers have acknowledged the importance of the film’s strong message about caste injustice. In addition to the lead pair, Dhadak 2 also stars Saurabh Sachdeva, Zakir Hussain, and Deeksha Joshi in pivotal roles.
