Dhaka Court Issues Arrest Warrant Against Shakib Al Hasan

A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against Bangladesh all-rounder and former Awami League MP Shakib Al Hasan on charges related to two bounced bank cheques. The warrant was issued on Sunday after Shakib failed to appear in court as previously ordered. According to court officials, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman instructed the police to submit a report on the execution of the warrant by March 24.

Shakib, who is also the chairman of an agriculture farm, did not attend the hearing concerning the bounced cheques, prompting the court to take action. An identical arrest warrant has been issued against the managing director of the farm, Gazi Shahagir Hossain, who also failed to respond to the summons.

Shakib Al Hasan, widely regarded as Bangladesh’s greatest cricketer, has not returned to the country, citing concerns over his safety. He has been living abroad following the civil unrest that led to the forced departure of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last year. Shakib’s last Test match was against India in Kanpur late last year, and the Champions Trophy in Dubai is expected to be his final appearance representing Bangladesh in international cricket.
