The Mumbai leg of promotions for Sekhar Kammula’s much-anticipated Kuberaa turned into a glamorous affair, with stars Dhanush, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Rashmika Mandanna sharing the stage. While the event had its share of glitz, it was Dhanush’s heartfelt reflections that truly captured the spotlight.
The National Award-winning actor took a nostalgic turn while speaking about the shoot, describing it as a homecoming experience. “We shot for six to seven hours in dumpyards, and Rashmika was absolutely fine with it!” he laughed. “I asked her, ‘Rashmika, what is this?’ She calmly replied, ‘I don’t smell anything!’ We wore masks, of course, but honestly, it wasn’t a big deal. It’s all part of the job.”
Getting candid about his roots, Dhanush added, “Stepping out of your comfort zone and experiencing a side of life you’re not usually exposed to—it’s enlightening. I come from very humble beginnings, and being back in that environment brought back so many memories. I’m truly grateful to this film for that.”
Rashmika echoed the sentiment, calling the dumpyard shoot a “high point” of the experience.
Speaking about his impressive two-decade-long journey and ability to break typecasting, Dhanush credited his collaborators: “I’m just a processor. My directors feed me the data, and I process it. The credit goes to them.”
Set for a grand theatrical release on June 20, 2025, Kuberaa stars Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna in pivotal roles. The film, shot in Tamil and Telugu, will simultaneously release in Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. As a powerful pan-India socio-drama, Kuberaa aims to reignite the box office spirit, especially in the Telugu states, with its unique storytelling and stellar performances.
