Nayanthara’s Documentary Faces Copyright Lawsuit
The sparkle of stardom often comes with its share of controversies, and Nayanthara is experiencing this firsthand. Her Netflix documentary, “Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale,” which was intended to offer fans an intimate glimpse into her life, has instead landed her in legal trouble.
Earlier, actor-producer Dhanush filed a ₹10 crore defamation case for using clips from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan without consent. Now, another dispute has emerged. AP International, a company claiming ownership of the rights to the blockbuster Chandramukhi, has approached the Madras High Court. They allege that footage from Chandramukhi was included in the documentary without permission and have demanded ₹5 crore in compensation, bringing both Nayanthara and Netflix into the legal fray.
The High Court has issued notices to both parties and directed them to submit their clarifications by October 6. Until then, the case remains pending, intensifying discussions around copyright use in digital documentaries.
What was meant to celebrate the journey of the “Lady Superstar” has turned into a legal tussle. For fans, the documentary highlighted Nayanthara’s softer, personal side. For the industry, however, it raises pressing questions about the boundaries of intellectual property rights in digital content. As the court prepares for its next hearing, all eyes are on whether Nayanthara can navigate this storm without it tarnishing her iconic image.
