Shreya Dhanwanthary Questions Censor Cut in Superman Movie

Actress Shreya Dhanwanthary has taken a bold stand against the censor board’s recent decision—and it’s not for reasons we usually hear. Unlike many actors who shy away from intimate scenes, Shreya is upset because one was removed from a film.

Originally from Hyderabad, Shreya made her debut in the Telugu film Sneha Geetham before making a mark in Bollywood, especially with her acclaimed role in Scam 1992. Known for her outspoken nature and unapologetic personality, Shreya is no stranger to voicing her opinions, both on social media and beyond.

Taking to Instagram, she expressed her displeasure with the censor board’s decision to cut a 33-second kiss scene from the latest Superman movie. The scene featured the superhero sharing a romantic moment with his love interest—something Shreya feels should not be controversial.

“The censor board chopped off a 33-second kiss scene in Superman. I don’t understand this action. They want us to support theatrical releases and stay away from piracy, but then dilute the theatrical experience with such unnecessary cuts? As paying adults, shouldn’t we be allowed to choose what we watch? This is just absurd,” she wrote.

Her statement quickly ignited a debate online. Supporters praised her stance on creative freedom and audience agency, while others argued that Superman, as a family-oriented franchise, must remain suitable for younger viewers, which may have prompted the board’s decision.

Regardless of which side of the argument people fall on, Shreya’s comments have reignited the long-standing conversation about where censorship ends and artistic expression begins—especially in an era where audiences are more aware and discerning than ever.
