Director T. J. Gnanavel Addresses Comparisons Between ‘Vettaiyan’ and ‘Jana Gana Mana’

Director T. J. Gnanavel, renowned for his critically acclaimed film ‘Jai Bhim’, has recently addressed concerns regarding potential comparisons between his latest release, ‘Vettaiyan’, and the Malayalam film ‘Jana Gana Mana’. While both films delve into the controversial subject of encounter killings, Gnanavel insists that ‘Vettaiyan’ offers a unique perspective.

“I did watch ‘Jana Gana Mana’, but my intention was to showcase the lives of encounter specialists from a different angle,” Gnanavel explained. “I wanted to delve into the complexities and consequences of their profession, exploring the ethical dilemmas they face.” The director further revealed that the story of ‘Vettaiyan’ is inspired by various real-life encounter cases, allowing audiences to examine the moral implications of such incidents.

Gnanavel also expressed interest in exploring a prequel to ‘Vettaiyan’, titled ‘Vettaiyan: The Hunter’. This prequel would delve into the backstory of Athiyan, the protagonist, and reveal how he became an encounter specialist. It would also explore Fahadh Faasil’s transformation into a thief and police informant, shedding light on the intricate web of relationships and motivations that drive the characters.

While Gnanavel has several projects lined up, he is currently focused on promoting ‘Vettaiyan’. He plans to discuss his future endeavors in detail in the first week of November. The director also expressed his gratitude for the positive response to ‘Vettaiyan’, stating that it is heartwarming to see the film being embraced by audiences across the country. He hopes that the film has sparked meaningful conversations about the important issues it raises.
