Divya Bharathi Slams Director Over ‘Chilaka’ Comment in Goat

“Goat,” an upcoming Telugu film starring Sudigali Sudheer, has recently been in the news due to controversy surrounding its original director, Narresh K Lee. Reports suggest that the director has been removed from the project, which recently resumed production without him.

The situation escalated after Narresh K Lee reportedly made a derogatory comment about the film’s heroine, Divya Bharathi, referring to her as “Chilaka” on social media platform X. Divya found the remark offensive and publicly addressed it.

Divya Bharathi, who has occasionally been linked to controversies in the past, clarified that she responded only because she was unnecessarily dragged into the spotlight. She stated, “Calling women ‘Chilaka’ or any other term isn’t a harmless joke; it’s a reflection of deep-rooted misogyny. This wasn’t a one-off incident; this director repeatedly disrespected women on set, betraying the very art he claims to create. What disappointed me most was seeing the hero remain silent, allowing this culture to continue. I choose workspaces where women aren’t targets for mockery, where every voice matters, and respect is non-negotiable. This is my standard as an artist and as a woman.”

Further defending her stance, Divya added, “For those claiming I ‘always have issues’ with teams, facts matter. I’ve worked repeatedly with the same actors and crews in Tamil cinema without conflicts. Only this particular director crossed the line with disrespectful comments. He chose to make it public, and I have every right to respond. If anyone wants to defend that behavior, that’s their choice. I’m not losing sleep over it.”

The actress has received overwhelming support from netizens, while the director has remained silent about the ongoing situation or the future of the project.
