Ever since it was announced that there would be by-polls in the Dubbaka constituency, followed by the tragic and surprise death of MLA Ramalinga Reddy, who belonged to the TRS. Every single party had taken the task seriously and campaigned hard to make sure that they would win.
With the counting of the polls having been started today, the results that have been announced so far are quite surprising. By the end of the sixth round of counting, the TRS is leading BJP with a slight margin of 352 votes. However, on the whole, the BJP has gotten 20,226 votes so far, the TRS has gotten 17,559 votes so far, and the Congress has gotten 3,254 votes so far. Overall BJP leads with 2667 votes. M Raghunandan Rao is contesting in the elections on behalf of the BJP, and S Sujatha, wife of the late Ramalinga Reddy, is contesting on behalf of the TRS.
Dubbaka was of not such an important consequence until now, but it is now taking all the political circles by storm. The TRS has a lot to prove in this election, given that its neighbouring Gajwel is KCR’s strong threshold, neighbouring Sircilla is KTR’s strong threshold, and the neighbouring Siddipet is Harish Rao’s strong threshold. If the TRS loses this by-election, the TRS will have to work very hard to make sure that its majority is kept up by the time the next elections roll out.
On the other hand, if the BJP manages to score a grand victory in these elections, the BJP’s long-standing aim of becoming the primary opposition for TRS will be achieved. A win in this election would also mean that the BJP’s stakes at winning the next general elections would significantly become more.
The Dubbaka by-elections have most certainly become highly interesting, and even though the BJP is currently leading, it will be interesting to see who will ultimately win the elections in the end.
