Some producers take unconventional paths that challenge industry norms and set new benchmarks. Aamir Khan famously bypassed OTT platforms for Sitaare Zameen Par, releasing it directly on YouTube, surprising audiences and creating a precedent. Following a similar strategy, Dulquer Salmaan has decided to keep his recent film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra exclusively in theaters for now.
Directed by Dominic Arun and starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, the film released on August 28 and has been performing strongly at the box office. Its storyline, visuals, and performances have captured nationwide attention. Rumors circulated that it would stream on Netflix from September 26, following the typical four-week theatrical window, especially after Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam announced its OTT release on Jio Hotstar on the same date.
However, Dulquer Salmaan clarified that Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra will not release on any digital platform soon. He urged fans to ignore misleading reports and await official announcements. Industry experts see this as a calculated move to maximize box office collections, especially with the upcoming Dasara holidays, when families are likely to flock to theaters.
Reports also indicate that the OTT rights for Lokah are yet to be sold, making this strategy even more intriguing. Much like Aamir Khan’s bold decision years ago, Dulquer’s focus on theatrical dominance has created added excitement and curiosity, ensuring fans will experience Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra on the big screen before any digital release.
