Dulquer Salmaan’s Kaantha Fails to Click Despite Strong Performance

Malayalam superstar Dulquer Salmaan has consistently won hearts with films like Mahanati, Bangalore Days, OK Bangaram, and Sita Ramam. His style and acting have also made him a favorite among Telugu audiences, with every new project generating excitement.

His latest film, Kaantha, released on Children’s Day, November 14, co-starring Bhagya Shree Borse and Rana Daggubati. Set in 1950s Madras, the period mystery thriller revolves around director Ayya, his tense relationship with star T.K. Mahadevan, and a murder on the set of Mahadevan’s film, investigated by Inspector Devaraj. Dulquer co-produced the film alongside Rana and others, having been interested in the script for years, which made him deeply invested in the project.

However, the film failed to make a strong impact. In three days, it collected just Rs 18 crore worldwide, and it seems unlikely to see much growth. Critics praised Dulquer’s performance as a standout, but the story didn’t resonate, leaving fans disappointed despite his efforts.

Now, comparisons are being drawn with Suriya, who balances mass entertainers with experimental films. While Suriya’s acting often earns praise even when a movie underperforms, fans are watching closely to see if Dulquer can strike that balance—delivering strong performances in films that also succeed with audiences.
