On the occasion of Dulquer Salmaan’s birthday, the makers of his upcoming period drama Kaantha unveiled an intriguing teaser that transports viewers to the vibrant world of 1950s Madras. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, the film is a joint production by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films and Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media.
Set in an era brimming with art and cinema, Kaantha delves into themes of ego, love, ambition, and the fragile nature of friendships in the creative world. The story revolves around Ayya, a legendary filmmaker who shaped the career of his close friend Chandran, helping him achieve stardom. Over time, their deep bond fractures. When Ayya embarks on a passion project — a female-centric film titled Shaantha — Chandran, now a powerful star, slowly takes over the film, bending its narrative to serve his image and eventually renaming it Kaantha.
Dulquer Salmaan brings Chandran to life with intensity, portraying an artist torn between ambition and legacy. Samuthirakani delivers a commanding performance as Ayya, the seasoned director. Bhagyashri Borse also leaves a lasting impression in her key role.
Visually, Kaantha is a treat. Dani Sanchez Lopez’s stunning cinematography, Tha. Ramalingam’s authentic art direction, and Jhanu Chanthar’s evocative background score together create a captivating, immersive experience.
