Elon Musk has once again expressed his support for French far-right leader Marine Le Pen, backing her presidential bid despite her recent fraud conviction. The billionaire entrepreneur shared a post on X describing Le Pen as “France’s last hope,” amplifying her campaign to his millions of followers after she officially entered the race for France’s 2027 presidential election.
Le Pen recently announced her fourth bid for the French presidency shortly after an appeals court upheld her conviction in a case involving the misappropriation of European Parliament funds. The court sentenced her to a 15-month ban from holding public office—already served—and a one-year sentence to be completed under electronic monitoring. She has since challenged the ruling before France’s highest court, allowing the legal process to continue.
Musk’s endorsement has sparked political reactions in France. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot appeared to criticize the Tesla and SpaceX CEO’s remarks, writing that “only fools don’t change their minds,” in what was widely seen as a response to Musk’s continued support for Le Pen.
This is not the first time Musk has publicly backed right-wing political figures in Europe. He has previously voiced support for Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and Romanian politician Calin Georgescu. Last year, Musk also echoed comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who described the legal case against Le Pen as a “witch hunt,” with Musk adding the message, “Free Le Pen!”
Le Pen’s National Rally (RN) party believes it has its strongest opportunity yet to win the French presidency after a decade of Emmanuel Macron’s leadership. Despite the legal challenges surrounding her candidacy, she remains determined to continue her campaign ahead of next year’s election.
Meanwhile, Musk continues to remain one of the world’s wealthiest individuals. Although he briefly became the first person to cross the trillion-dollar net worth mark following the strong market debut of SpaceX shares, his estimated fortune has since declined below that milestone amid market fluctuations.
