Errum Manzil case, a slap on KCR’s face!

The judgement delivered by the Telangana high court striking down the decision of the Telangana cabinet headed by K Chandrashekar Rao to demolish the 150-year old heritage structure Errum Manzil to build a modern Legislative Assembly complex in Hyderabad, came as a slap on the face of KCR.

The HC declared a June 18th cabinet decision on this invalid. Bharatiya Janata Party state unit welcomed the high court’s decision stating that it should be an eye opener to the KCR government, which thinks it can do anything because he has got majority.

“The irresponsible adamance to demolish a heritage building by the TRS Governme has been neutralized by the high court. It’s a victory of citizens of Hyderabad over an insensitive and irresponsible government,” BJP spokesperson K Krishna Sagar Rao said.

However, he said, the BJP doesn’t believe that KCR will learn any lessons from the high court order.

“There has been a pattern set by the state government in the last six years, that it will take knee jerk decisions with no application of mind, legality or constitutionality,” he said.

BJP warned KCR government to get its act together and deliver on the promises made to people.

The chief minister wanted to build a new assembly complex on the lines of Parliament House in place of Errum Manzil of Nizam’s period.

The High Court found fault with the government for removing the monument from the list of heritage structures under the Telangana Heritage (Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Maintenance) Act of 2017, by ignoring several aspects.

“Dismantling heritage structures is dismantling the people’s existence and erasing the recognition of the city”, the bench said, adding that protection of the heritage is as equally important as preparing plans for the future.
