ETV Win’s AIR Faces Flak Over Controversial Scene

Share

ETV Win, which has been steadily strengthening its foothold in the OTT arena, recently scored a success with its heartfelt series Anaganaga, which boosted both viewership and subscriptions. Building on that momentum, the platform launched AIR (All India Rankers), a youth-driven web series that delves into the everyday lives and pressures faced by intermediate students.

The series opened to a largely positive response, with audiences appreciating its relatable storytelling, youthful cast, and grounded themes. However, a particular scene from one of the episodes sparked unexpected backlash online.

In the scene, a senior character is seen advising his juniors with comments that some viewers interpreted as promoting caste-based ideology. The dialogue, which mentioned choosing allies from one’s own community and framed success in domains like cricket through a caste lens, drew criticism. Further fueling the controversy was a prominently displayed letter ‘C’ on a board in the background, which some audiences perceived as an indirect caste reference.

The social media response was swift, with many condemning the scene for reinforcing regressive thinking. In light of the growing concern, the creators of AIR were quick to respond. In an official statement, the team clarified that the intent was never to promote caste bias and assured viewers that such oversights would be addressed with sensitivity going forward. Sources suggest that the controversial scene might be edited out in upcoming versions.

Despite the misstep, AIR continues to draw attention for its fresh take on student life, highlighting both the promise and challenges of creating content that resonates with young audiences while staying socially responsible.
