It is uncertain if movie theaters will be re-opened anytime soon in India. Consequently, many films which were set for theatrical release have been postponed indefenitely.
However, the lockdown seems to be indirectly helping the makers of Keerthy Suresh’s upcoming projects.
Incidentally, Keerthy Suresh’s long-delayed film, ‘Penguin’ finally saw limelight as it was released on Amazon Prime last month. The producers made decent profits, despite the fact that the film got a lukewarm response.
Now, two of Keerthy’s upcoming projects, ‘Good Luck Sakhi’, and ‘Miss India’ are gearing up for direct OTT release.
‘Good Luck Sakhi’ has Nagesh Kukunoor at the helm. Mahesh Koneru is producing ‘Miss India’. Both the films have apparently wrapped shoot.
The makers of ‘Miss India’ are already negotiating with OTT platforms and might be signing a deal very soon. Even the producers of ‘Good Luck Sakhi’ will be initiating talks with digital platforms in the days to come.
Well, the onset of coronavirus pandemic has shown a monstrous effect on cinema industry. Shootings and pre-release business of multiple films have been put on hold due to the lockdown. Even if movie theaters are re-opened by the end of the year, there is no guarantee that audience will rush to the theaters. Small budget films will be largely effected due to the unforeseen circumstances.
Luckily for Keerthy Suresh, she has gained some attention on OTT platforms. The makers of her subsequent films can contemplate a direct OTT release. If they strike the right deal, they can generate more revenue through OTT release than that of a theatrical release, especially so, due to the current situation of movie theaters. It needs to be said that the extended lockdown is indirectly helping Keerthy Suresh’s films.
