Hrithik Roshan Reflects on Family Tragedy in The Roshans
Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan, currently collaborating with Jr. NTR on the much-anticipated War 2, recently opened up about a pivotal moment that deeply impacted his life and family. In the newly released documentary series The Roshans, Hrithik shares a heartfelt account of the harrowing attack on his father, legendary filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, in 2000.
The shocking incident occurred just a week after the premiere of Hrithik’s blockbuster debut, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. Rakesh Roshan was ambushed and shot twice in broad daylight in Mumbai, an act widely speculated to have ties to the underworld. Despite his injuries, the resilient director drove himself to the hospital, showcasing remarkable strength in the face of adversity.
Reflecting on the traumatic event, Hrithik said, “It was a rough moment, of course. But I don’t recall ever being scared for my father. To me, he was Superman.” Hrithik admitted to feeling momentary dread upon glimpsing blood-stained sheets in the hospital but found solace in his father’s unshakable calm and humor. “He gave off an aura of invincibility even in the darkest moments,” he added, highlighting the profound mix of admiration and turmoil he felt seeing his father’s strength juxtaposed with vulnerability.
The documentary further explores the emotional aftermath of the attack. Hrithik shared a poignant memory of his grandmother recounting how Rakesh Roshan woke up screaming, haunted by the trauma. “That’s when I truly understood the human fragility behind the Superman,” Hrithik revealed. Archival footage from 2000 also captures a younger Hrithik addressing the media, reflecting on his grief and shaken faith during the ordeal.
