Despite being widely regarded as one of the finest actors of his generation, Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil has been struggling to deliver major box-office hits in lead roles in recent years. While his acting prowess continues to earn critical acclaim, inconsistent story selection has kept him from achieving commercial success as a solo hero.
With the exception of Aavesham, none of Fahadh’s recent lead-role films over the last five years — including Irul, Joji, Malik, Malayankunju, Dhooman, and Mareesan — have managed to click at the box office. His latest outing, Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira, released just days ago, has also received a lukewarm response and appears set to join the list of disappointments.
In 2025 alone, Fahadh has appeared in Mareesan and Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira. While Mareesan failed theatrically but found some appreciation on OTT platforms, the romantic comedy Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira underperformed even during its opening weekend. Meanwhile, other films released during the same frame, such as Lokah and Hridaya Poorvam, garnered positive word-of-mouth and box-office traction — highlighting the gap between Fahadh’s acting excellence and his script choices as a lead star.
Interestingly, Fahadh continues to deliver hits in supporting roles in big-ticket projects such as Vikram, Maamannan, Pushpa, and the upcoming Pushpa 2. This contrast has sparked discussion among industry watchers and audiences alike: how does Fahadh consistently choose strong supporting roles while often misfiring with his lead projects?
Regarded as one of Indian cinema’s most versatile performers, Fahadh Faasil’s next challenge may not be about proving his acting caliber — but about aligning his talent with scripts that resonate at the box office.
