Federal Judge Temporarily Blocks Trump’s Birthright Citizenship Ban

In one of his initial executive actions as U.S. President, Donald Trump signed an order to ban birthright citizenship. However, a Senior Federal Judge has now temporarily blocked the order.

On Thursday, Senior U.S. District Judge John Coughenour from Seattle issued a nationwide temporary restraining order, preventing the executive order from taking effect.

“I’ve served on the bench for over four decades, and I can’t recall a case where the issue was as clear as this. This executive order is blatantly unconstitutional,” Judge Coughenour stated during his ruling.

The block will remain in effect for at least 14 days as lawsuits in other jurisdictions proceed. Washington state has indicated its intention to seek a preliminary injunction to further halt the order’s implementation.

Washington Attorney General Nick Brown, who filed the lawsuit against the Trump administration, described the executive order as an “unconstitutional, un-American, and cruel attempt to redefine what it means to be an American.”

The case marks a significant legal challenge to the Trump administration’s controversial immigration policies, with further developments expected in the coming weeks.
