Is there a way to touch “Baahubali: The Beginning” box office records? We have earlier said that “Robo 2” is one flick on the radar that could do the unthinkable. But before that film of Shankar arrives, here comes Powerstar Vijay’s “Puli” that’s gearing up for a mega release on October 1st.
Unlike any other Tamil biggie, this time Vijay’s film is releasing in four languages including the original Tamil version on same day. On 1st, Puli will be hitting screens in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam languages.
For Hindi and Malayalam, local producers are involved big time to market, promote and release the movie. This is exactly like what Baahubali has done. In Tamil, there is less competition at box office on that date while in Telugu we’ve a packed October, with “Kance” releasing on October 2nd, followed by Rudramadevi (9th), Bruce Lee (16th) and Akhil (22nd).
In Hindi arena, star hero Akshay Kumar’s “Singh Is Bling” is arriving on 2nd. With so much competition around, will “Puli” be able to do a bigger box office magic like Baahubali? Though release is targeted for 1st, the film’s promotions are not upto the mark till date.
Firstly, Baahubali has created terrific buzz by revealing each character May 1st onwards, while film got released on July 10th. After 2 months and 10 days promotion, Rajamouli is able to rake up such big numbers. Not just in Tollywood, they promoted the film aggressively in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam too.
With no such promotions seen or heard about “Puli”, Vijay’s star image in Tamilnadu will not help mint numbers in other states. Anyway, Puli will be first attempt to beat Baahubali and that’s a healthy competition. Directed by Chimbudeva, Puli features Vijay, Shruti Haasan, Hansika, Sudeep and Sridevi in crucial roles.
