Local correctional authorities in USA revealed the execution date of Indian origin death-row prisoner Raghunandan Yandamuri as February 23. Raghunandan is the first Indian to face death penalty in America. He was issued death penalty in 2014 for killing a 61 year old elderly Indian woman and 10 month old grand daughter of her. Raghunandan was convicted for these killings as part of mishandled kidnapping for ransom plot.
32 yeard old Raghunandan Yandamuri has visited US on a H-1B visa and holds an advanced degree in electrical and computer science engineering. Right after his conviction, Yandamuri reportedly pleaded guilty and asked for death penalty be imposed on him. He later appealed his sentence, a vain attempt.
Though his execution is set to be by lethal injection, the sentence might get postponed or cancelled for a limited time, according to death penalty moratorium put by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf. As per death penalty moratorium, the secretary of corrections has 30 days to issue a notice of execution if governor does not sign a execution warrant in given specific time. The state of Pennsylvania has not seen any executions in last 18 years and three convicted have been executed between 1995 to 1999.
