Rajinikanth Shares His Love for Books and Excitement for Velpari Film
Superstar Rajinikanth continues to be a phenomenon in Indian cinema. His unique style, unmatched swag, and screen presence have earned him a dedicated fanbase that eagerly waits to see him in action. The energy in theatres whenever he appears on screen is a clear testament to his legendary craze.
Even in his 70s, Rajinikanth is showing no signs of slowing down. After bouncing back strongly with Jailer, the star is now gearing up for his next big release, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film is set to hit theatres worldwide on August 14, and expectations are already sky-high.
Recently, Rajinikanth made an appearance at a literary event held in celebration of the positive response to the acclaimed novel Velpari written by Venkatesan. He attended the event as the chief guest, and, true to his candid nature, surprised everyone with his opening remarks. Rajinikanth joked, saying, “Why was I invited to a literary event at the age of 75, walking in slow motion with cooling glasses, when I barely know anything about books?”
He reflected on how his comments at a recent event had gone viral, and said that this time, he would speak more carefully. He added, “Wisdom teaches us what to say, talent tells us how to say it, the stage decides how much to say, but experience teaches us what not to say.”
Rajinikanth humbly suggested that personalities like Kamal Haasan or Sivakumar would have been more suitable guests for such an event. However, he also revealed that his interest in books came through his spiritual connection with the Ramakrishna Ashram, and over time, he developed a love for reading. He fondly recalled how author Jayakanthan’s works deeply impacted him, mentioning that one of his books even moved him to tears.
Speaking about Velpari, Rajinikanth shared that he had started reading it on a friend’s recommendation and had completed about a quarter of it. He said he plans to finish the rest after retiring from films. The superstar also expressed excitement about the upcoming film adaptation of Velpari by acclaimed director Shankar, noting that he is eagerly looking forward to seeing how the book is brought to life on screen.
