
Seoul, Feb 19 (IANS) – Generative artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as the most sought-after subscription service among consumers in their 20s and 30s, according to a recent survey.
The study, conducted by market research firm Macromill Embrain on 1,000 adults, revealed that 94.8% of respondents have used subscription-based applications, reports Yonhap news agency. Commissioned by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industries, the survey found that 20% of consumers in their 20s preferred generative AI as their top new subscription service, followed closely by Amid the rising demand for AI-driven services, the South Korean government and the ruling People Power Party (PPP) are set to discuss measures to enhance the country’s AI industry. Their consultations are expected to focus on AI trends and strategies, including DeepSeek, China’s generative AI service, and initiatives to expand AI computing infrastructure for improved competitiveness.
Among the most commonly used subscription services, video streaming platforms topped the list at 60.8%, followed by shopping memberships at 52.4% and bundled internet and TV packages at 45.8%. In terms of subscription habits, 39.8% of respondents reported having three to four subscriptions, while 33.9% subscribed to one or two services. Monthly spending on subscriptions was most commonly below 30,000 won (US$20.8) at 30.5%, whereas 14.9% of respondents spent over 150,000 won per month.
