While Girija Oak is a well-known name in Marathi theatre and cinema, she has also made notable appearances in Hindi films and shows such as Taare Zameen Par, Ladies Special, Shor in the City, Jawan, and Inspector Zende.
The internet can’t get enough of the “blue-saree woman.” Curiosity quickly turned into admiration, with users flooding social media with praise for her charm and talent. “I’m amused! I was in rehearsals for my play and couldn’t take calls,” Girija told Hindustan Times. She also noted that some social media accounts tried to “sexualize” her viral moment.
“Suddenly, my friends started messaging me, asking if I knew what was happening on X. One sent me a post debating if it was Priya Bapat or me! Then my devar told me that some cheap handles had picked up my pictures, turning it into a ‘bhabhi lover’ trend. Some pages sexualized me. But Marathi fans proudly said, ‘You’ve just discovered her! We’ve known her for years,’” she said.
Girija acknowledged that internet trends come and go but expressed happiness that people are finally discovering her work. “The work I do is here to stay. If people are finding my performances now, that makes me happy,” she added.
The actress recently made headlines for speaking about how safe and respected she felt while filming intimate scenes with Gulshan Devaiah for her upcoming series Therapy Sherapy, further establishing her commitment to professional and nuanced performances.
