Deva Katta’s Writing Talent Powers Big Telugu Projects

Deva Katta has been one of the most distinctive filmmakers in Telugu cinema, known for his debut Vennela and later for creating films that break away from conventional commercial storytelling.
While he is widely recognized as a director, his strength as a writer has often stood out even more. Though he never built a “star writer” image for himself, his dialogues have developed a strong cult following over the years.
Interestingly, Deva Katta’s writing skills are now finding a place in some major ongoing projects. Reports suggest that he has been brought on board to contribute powerful dialogues for a crucial sequence in the much-anticipated NTR–Neel project. He has earlier worked in a similar capacity with top filmmakers, including S. S. Rajamouli, contributing specifically to impactful dialogue sequences.
In the past, he is said to have written the intense “Yedi Maranam” episode in Baahubali and is also reportedly involved in writing for Varanasi. These collaborations highlight his ability to step in as a specialist writer for high-impact moments in big-budget films.
At a time when artificial intelligence tools are increasingly being explored for screenplay development, Deva Katta’s work reinforces the importance of human writing sensibilities. Many believe that while technology is evolving rapidly, strong storytelling and emotional depth still depend on experienced writers.
Telugu cinema has always celebrated legendary writers such as Paruchuri Brothers, Chinni Krishna, Vijayendra Prasad, Posani Krishna Murali, Trivikram Srinivas, and Kona Venkat, who have all enjoyed strong recognition for their writing prowess.
Even as Deva Katta continues his journey as a director, his growing involvement in prestigious projects as a dialogue writer shows that his writing talent remains highly valued in the industry.
