Responding to plethora of complaints, the government looks to have finally decided to target the companies that have been selling bottled water at hiked prices.
The Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan made it clear that water bottles from now on should be sold at same price across the country irrespective of the place and platform, be it the Cinemas, Airport or railway station. Anyone who will be found selling water bottles at price higher than MRP will be fined, added the govt.
For years, people used to wonder why water bottles cost different at different places, especially at airports and railway stations. After several complaints were lodged against this bottled water mafia, the govt. is now planning to bring a law to restrain such companies and their dealerships. A prior warning has been issued now.
The onus is now on the citizens to inform the authorities if they come across any shopkeeper selling water bottles at inflated prices.
