
Google has introduced three new lightweight Gemini AI models, expanding its next-generation artificial intelligence lineup with improvements focused on coding, knowledge-based tasks, multimodal performance, and efficiency. The company announced the launch of Gemini 3.6 Flash, Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, and Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber on July 21.
While the launch adds new capabilities to the Gemini family, the much-awaited Gemini 3.5 model continues to face delays after its previously planned June release was postponed. Meanwhile, Google has also teased the upcoming Gemini 4 model, highlighting its strong pre-training performance and next-generation potential.
According to Google, the new Flash series is designed to deliver better performance while reducing costs and improving efficiency. Among the new releases, Gemini 3.6 Flash is positioned as a high-performance “workhorse model,” offering faster processing and requiring fewer tokens for completing similar tasks compared to Gemini 3.5 Flash.
Google stated that Gemini 3.6 Flash has been developed based on feedback from developers and users of the previous generation model. The AI model brings improvements in areas such as software development, knowledge work, and token efficiency. It is also said to offer better benchmark performance, including stronger results in software engineering, machine learning research, and computer-use tasks.
The company has also launched Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, a lighter version aimed at applications that require faster responses and large-scale usage. Designed for low-latency workloads, the model supports features such as agentic search, document processing, and AI agent development. Developers can adjust reasoning levels depending on requirements, allowing faster responses for simpler tasks and deeper analysis for complex workloads.
Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite also brings improvements in coding and long-context processing capabilities. Google highlighted that the model is suitable for developers building scalable AI applications that need speed, flexibility, and cost efficiency.
The third release, Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber, is a specialized cybersecurity-focused model available through CodeMender. It is designed to identify, verify, and assist in fixing software vulnerabilities, supporting AI-powered security systems. Due to security considerations, Google is currently providing limited access to governments and selected trusted partners through a pilot programme.
Google has also confirmed that it is working towards releasing Gemini 3.5 Pro soon. With continuous upgrades across its AI ecosystem, the company aims to strengthen Gemini’s position in areas ranging from software development and automation to cybersecurity and advanced knowledge tasks.
