Google has officially rolled out Gemini 3, its newest foundation model, now available directly through the Gemini app and AI-driven search. Arriving just seven months after the release of Gemini 2.5, the launch positions Google at the forefront of the race to build the most capable AI system on the market. The timing is strategic, coming only days after OpenAI unveiled GPT 5.1 and two months following Anthropic’s debut of Sonnet 4.5—highlighting the rapidly escalating competition among top AI labs.
A more research-heavy variant, Gemini 3 Deepthink, is also in progress. Expected to be released to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the coming weeks, the model is currently undergoing additional safety and alignment reviews before deployment.
“We’re seeing a massive jump in reasoning with Gemini 3,” said Tulsee Doshi, Google’s head of product for the Gemini model. “It’s responding with a level of depth and nuance that we haven’t seen before.”
Early benchmarks appear to validate that claim. With a 37.4 score on Humanity’s Last Exam—a leading test for advanced reasoning and general intelligence—Gemini 3 now holds the top global ranking, surpassing GPT 5 Pro’s previous high of 31.64. It has also climbed to the number one position on LMArena, a user satisfaction–based leaderboard.
Google reports that the Gemini app currently serves over 650 million monthly active users, while more than 13 million developers integrate Gemini into their workflows. These numbers underscore the model’s expanding influence across Google’s broader AI ecosystem.
Along with the model release, Google also introduced Antigravity, a new Gemini-powered coding environment. The multi-pane interface integrates a chat prompt, terminal, and browser view, enabling agentic coding where the AI can write, test, and refine applications in real time.
“The agent can work with your editor, across your terminal, across your browser to help you build that application in the best way possible,” said Koray Kavukcuoglu, CTO of Google DeepMind.
Google’s latest advancements make clear that the contest among AI giants is accelerating rapidly. With Gemini 3 setting new benchmark records and Deepthink approaching release, the company is signaling its determination to stay at the cutting edge of reasoning, coding, and agentic AI capabilities.
