Google’s New Squid Game Easter Egg Lets You Play ‘Red Light, Green Light

Google has unveiled an exciting new Easter egg inspired by Netflix’s massively popular series Squid Game. Fans of the show can now experience a digital version of the intense “Red Light, Green Light” game directly from Google Search, adding an interactive twist to their online experience.

To unlock the game, simply search for “Squid Game” on Google using either a mobile or desktop browser. Scroll to the bottom of the search results, where you’ll find an animated invitation card featuring the iconic circle, triangle, and square symbols, reminiscent of the show’s mysterious guards. Click on the card, and the game will launch.

In this Google version of Red Light, Green Light, players guide six figures trying to make it across the finish line. The game uses a simple two-button mechanic to control movement:

Blue Circle Button: Press to start moving.
Red Cross Button: Press to stop moving.
The challenge is to stop before the doll turns around—otherwise, you risk having a player eliminated. The objective is to get all six players safely across the finish line without making any mistakes.

This isn’t a simple game of “press and hold”—the two-button mechanic creates an added layer of tension, closely mirroring the intense moments from the series.

As an additional nod to the Squid Game universe, the game’s doll, Young-hee, recites the iconic phrase “무궁화꽃이 피었습니다” (Mugunghwa-kkochi pieot-seumnida), meaning “The Mugungha Flower has bloomed.” This phrase became a symbol of the nerve-wracking suspense in the original game.

The Easter egg was released just in time for the premiere of Squid Game Season 2 on Netflix, which debuted on December 26, 2024. With the second season continuing to captivate global audiences, this playful Google feature provides a timely and fun way to engage with the world of Squid Game.

So, give it a try and see if you can get all six players to the finish line without being eliminated! And while you’re at it, let us know your thoughts on Squid Game Season 2—did it live up to the hype?
