Nagarjuna Akkineni and the entire Akkineni family have been working diligently to preserve and expand the remarkable legacy of the legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR). Fifty years ago, ANR established Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad, a landmark that played a crucial role in the Telugu Film Industry’s growth, especially in the Telugu states.

In a touching video, Nagarjuna shared how ANR, alongside his mother Annapurna, laid the foundation stone of the studio in 1975 during the Sankranti festival. He reminisced about how ANR had a visionary plan to build the massive studio in a challenging, barren terrain of hills, where even basic infrastructure like roads were absent at the time.

Senior staff members of Annapurna Studios also recalled ANR’s relentless efforts in establishing the facility, noting that ANR and Annapurna would personally have breakfast with the staff on foundation day every Sankranti. Keeping the tradition alive, Nagarjuna and the Akkineni family served breakfast to the staff this year, honoring the bond between the family and its extended members at the studio. Nagarjuna affectionately referred to the studio staff as “warriors” and expressed his deep respect for their commitment.

Recently, Nagarjuna also inaugurated India’s first-ever Dolby facility for post-production at Annapurna Studios, with SS Rajamouli cutting the ribbon. This cutting-edge facility marks another milestone in the studio’s rich legacy. Through their consistent efforts, Nagarjuna and the Akkineni family are ensuring that ANR’s vision continues to inspire future generations in the film industry.
