HCU Land Row: Telangana Govt Faces Backlash from Celebrities & Activists

Share

Since the Revanth Reddy-led government took charge in Telangana, several controversies have erupted. One of the most contentious issues has been the government’s aggressive stance on encroachments. While the intent was to reclaim illegally occupied land, the approach of demolishing houses without addressing the systemic failures of past administrations led to widespread criticism. With mounting opposition, the government has recently softened its stance.

Now, a fresh controversy has emerged as the Telangana government moves to take control of 400 acres of land within the Hyderabad Central University (HCU) campus in Gachibowli for real estate development. This decision has sparked outrage among environmentalists, who argue that the area, rich in biodiversity, is being destroyed. In response, HCU students have launched large-scale protests, with political support from both BRS and BJP.

As the issue gains traction, voices from the film industry have also joined the movement. Director Nag Ashwin, who previously commented on the dispute, reignited discussions with his cryptic social media post, “This is our karma.” Upasana Konidela, wife of Ram Charan, questioned whether the displaced animals and trees would be relocated. Meanwhile, Renu Desai took a stronger stance, urging the government to prioritize sustainable development and protect future generations. Actor Prakash Raj also condemned the move, while celebrities like Samantha, Isha Rebba, and Rashmi expressed their concerns online, calling for the preservation of the land and its wildlife.

With growing protests and increasing public outcry, the land dispute is shaping up to be a major challenge for the Revanth Reddy government, potentially affecting its reputation and public trust.
