Prakash Raj’s Heartfelt Tribute to Kota Srinivasa Rao
Though originally from Karnataka, actor Prakash Raj has carved an indelible mark in Telugu cinema with his powerful performances. Among those who recognized his talent was the legendary Kota Srinivasa Rao. While Kota always acknowledged Prakash Raj’s acting prowess, he was also vocal about his belief that native Telugu actors should be prioritized for prominent roles over non-Telugu artists.
During the MAA (Movie Artistes Association) elections a few years ago, Kota’s remarks about the increasing presence of non-Telugu actors in the industry were widely interpreted as being directed at Prakash Raj. This sparked speculations about a rift between the two veterans.
However, following Kota Srinivasa Rao’s passing, Prakash Raj paid an emotional tribute that dispelled such notions. He clarified that despite differing views, there was mutual respect and even a personal bond between them. Prakash fondly recalled being inspired by Kota’s stellar performances long before he ventured into the Telugu film industry. He shared that Kota’s mastery in acting had a significant impact on his own craft.
Prakash also reminisced about working alongside Kota in multiple films, describing him as a “unique personality” — someone who wasn’t easily impressed and always spoke his mind without fear or favor. He recalled an incident where someone questioned Kota on his support for a non-native like Prakash. To this, Kota firmly replied, “He’s no outsider. Prakash has learned Telugu. He’s one of us now.”
For Prakash Raj, such gestures reflected Kota Srinivasa Rao’s integrity, fairness, and genuine love for the craft — qualities that left a lasting impression on him both personally and professionally.
