Aditya Dhar Next Big Films: Ashwatthama or Chandragupta Maurya?

Aditya Dhar has been making headlines in Indian cinema following the success of his two-part blockbuster Dhurandhar (2025–2026). With the filmmaker now completing this major franchise, the big question in industry circles is—what will his next project be?
According to Mumbai media reports, Aditya Dhar is currently working on two ambitious scripts. One is a mythological epic based on Ashwatthama, the legendary warrior from the Mahabharata, while the other is a historical drama centered on Chandragupta Maurya, which is expected to prominently feature the story of Chanakya.
Gossip in film circles suggests that Ashwatthama may go on floors first, as its script is reportedly ready. However, there is also strong speculation that Dhar could prioritize the Chandragupta Maurya project instead.
If the historical epic materializes, industry buzz suggests that Ranveer Singh is being considered for the role of Chandragupta Maurya. The most intriguing aspect, however, is the character of Chanakya, which is expected to be a pivotal role in the narrative.
Some insiders believe that Kamal Haasan could be approached for this powerful strategist’s role, while others feel that Akshaye Khanna is also a strong contender, especially after his much-talked-about performance in Dhurandhar.
Akshaye Khanna has recently gained significant attention for his role as Rehman Dakait and was even reportedly considered for other major projects like Drishyam 3. However, portraying Chanakya may require a complete physical transformation, including a tonsured look, which could influence casting decisions.
For now, all these reports remain speculative, with no official confirmation from the makers. Nevertheless, Aditya Dhar’s next move continues to be one of the most closely watched developments in Indian cinema.
