Senior BJP leader and Union External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj has been in news for all the wrong reasons of late. Sushma, who is in the midst of controversy for aiding to IPL founder Lalit Modi and is under severe pressure to quit her post, on Wednesday courted fresh row by changing her Twitter status. She changed her Twtter bio from ‘Foreign Minister, Government of India’ to no post.
This instantly caught many eye-balls and set the tongues wagging of opposition party leaders. Taken aback with the reactions around the country, Sushma then back to same old status within one hour. But in between, damage has been done as several TV and print reports reported of her change of status in Twitter.
It may be recalled that Sushma Swaraj went out of her way to get Lalit Modi’s travel documents from the British government since his passport had been revoked by the Indian government for his alleged violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
Opposition parties are mounting heavy pressure on government and Sushma to quit her post as External Affairs minister. For the past two days, Opposition parties have been stalling the proceedings of Parliament pressing the demand for her resignation. Sushma Swaraj took charge of External Affairs minister in Narendra Modi cabinet in 2014 soon after NDA’s stupendous success in the general elections.
