Earlier this week, Heritage Foods approached the Delhi High Court seeking action against alleged defamatory content linked to the Tirumala Laddu adulteration controversy. The company argued that certain reports and discussions were malicious and damaging to its reputation.
The Delhi High Court subsequently issued an interim order directing Sakshi TV and certain digital platforms, including YouTube channels, to take down related reports, broadcasts, interviews, debates, or content within 24 hours. The court also instructed them to refrain from publishing or disseminating any allegedly false, misleading, or defamatory material against Heritage Foods until further proceedings.
The controversy has unfolded amid political tensions, with leaders from the YSR Congress Party continuing to raise allegations against the company. Heritage Foods, being a listed entity, has maintained that such claims are baseless and harmful to shareholders and public confidence.
On Friday, the company reportedly sent legal notices to Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and other YSR Congress leaders. The notice seeks an immediate explanation and retraction of what it describes as false and defamatory statements made during press interactions.
Meanwhile, Nara Lokesh is also engaged in a separate legal battle against Sakshi over an allegedly defamatory article published on October 22, 2019. Lokesh has filed a ₹75 crore defamation suit in the Visakhapatnam District Court against the newspaper’s editor, publisher, and reporters, claiming the report was fabricated and intended to damage his reputation. He has reportedly been actively pursuing the case, including attending multiple cross-examinations.
Despite ongoing legal proceedings, the political exchange continues. Industry observers note that since Heritage Foods is a publicly listed company, the outcome of these cases could have broader implications.
It remains to be seen how the legal disputes will unfold in the coming months and whether further action will be taken by the company’s leadership to address the issue decisively.
