How Did Aamir Khan’s Son Junaid’s ‘Maharaj’ Turn Out?

Usually, theatrical releases face legal troubles but a director OTT film faced legal issues even before it got released. It is none other than ‘Maharaj’ which is Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan’s debut flick. A few Hindu representatives have stopped the release on Netflix by filing a complaint on this film as their religious sentiments were hurt. The Gujarat court heard both sides of the argument and watched the movie as well. They decided that it was fit for release and it came out on Netflix without huge promotions.

Going into the story of ‘Maharaj’, Siddharth P Malhotra made this film based on the Maharaj Libel case of 1862. Karshan Das (Junaid Khan) who is a responsible journalist decides to expose the secrets of KK alias Maharaj (Jaideep Ahlawat) who is being regarded as a god by everyone. He reveals how Maharaj is conning everyone in the name of god and deceiving young women as well. The case reaches court and despite all odds, Karshan Das fights legally and wins the battle.

Yash Raj Films banner bankrolled this project which is based on Sourabh Shah’s book. Siddharth faltered in making the story which happened 150 years ago. Despite having an interesting plotline, the execution went wrong and the screenplay failed to engage the audience. The courtroom drama was written well but a lot of such films arrived in recent times. Jaideep, Shalini and Sharvari did well but Junaid Khan was strictly okay. Despite all the controversy, ‘Maharaj’ turns into a disappointing fare.
