The City Civil Court in Hyderabad has granted an ad-interim injunction safeguarding Megastar Chiranjeevi’s personality and publicity rights, marking a significant milestone in Telugu cinema’s legal history. The court order restricts any unauthorized commercial or creative use of Chiranjeevi’s name, image, or popular titles — including Megastar, Chiru, and Annayya — across memes, counterfeit merchandise, or AI-generated content.
Legal action has already commenced against individuals allegedly involved in spreading negative campaigns or exploiting Chiranjeevi’s persona on social media. The ruling reinforces that any such misuse without prior consent is a punishable offense.
While Daler Mehndi was the first Indian celebrity to win a personality rights case and Nagarjuna the first from Tollywood, Chiranjeevi becomes the first to achieve this recognition through a Hyderabad court, setting a strong precedent for celebrity rights protection in the digital era.
