Dhanush’s Idli Kadai is a complete passion project — written, directed, produced, and led by the actor himself. Despite the creative ambition and a hefty ₹100 crore budget, the film couldn’t make a mark in theatres, collecting just ₹71.91 crore worldwide. Its small-scale, emotional storytelling didn’t quite resonate with the big-screen audience.

However, Idli Kadai found its true success on OTT. After premiering on Netflix on October 29, 2025, the film quickly gained momentum, staying in the platform’s India Top 10 for two consecutive weeks and even clinching the No. 1 spot.

The movie’s reach extended beyond borders — topping charts in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives, and making it to the Top 10 in over 15 countries, including Australia, UAE, Singapore, Qatar, Malaysia, Mauritius, and Nigeria.

What began as a theatrical disappointment has now transformed into a global streaming triumph — proving that some heartfelt stories find their true home on digital platforms.
