India Foils Major Pakistani Aerial Attack; Retaliates with Precision Strikes

India successfully intercepted a large-scale aerial attack launched by Pakistan on Thursday night, May 9, thwarting an attempted strike involving drones and missiles across multiple northern states. The Indian air defence systems acted swiftly, neutralizing the incoming threats and preventing any damage to critical military installations.

The attack triggered emergency alerts, including sirens and blackouts, in several parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Ladakh. Civilians were urged to stay indoors while defence forces remained on high alert. Despite the scale of the attempted attack, India’s Integrated Defence Staff confirmed there was no reported damage to any military targets in Jammu and Udhampur.

“Military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur near the International Border were targeted by Pakistani drones and missiles. However, no casualties or infrastructure damage occurred,” the Indian Armed Forces stated in a formal communication.

India’s air defence forces reportedly intercepted and destroyed eight incoming missiles near Jammu, preventing a potentially major catastrophe. Media reports also noted that an F-16 fighter jet of the Pakistan Air Force was downed in the evening by an Indian surface-to-air missile defence system, with another aircraft possibly shot down near Sargodha air base.

The attempted Pakistani strike came just hours after an earlier effort to target 15 Indian cities using drones and missiles was also thwarted.

In response, India launched retaliatory airstrikes, targeting and destroying several Pakistani military sites and infrastructure. Indian Air Force Wing Commander Vyomika Singh confirmed strikes on key Pakistani cities and military hubs including Lahore, Sargodha, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi. Additionally, key Indian towns including Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, and Chandigarh remained on high alert.

The Indian Army and Air Force also confirmed that they had neutralized launch sites, command centres, and drone facilities located deep within Pakistan’s territory. Reports indicated that at least one major missile command site was obliterated.

Further retaliatory actions by India included precision artillery and mortar strikes targeting terrorist camps along the Line of Control (LoC), particularly in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, and Rajouri. This artillery exchange reportedly led to the elimination of over 16 civilians, including women and children, who were used as human shields by terrorist groups—according to Indian security sources.

Earlier in the week, India had also executed high-precision airstrikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting at least nine terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Sources indicate nearly 100 terrorists were neutralized in these operations, with confirmed damage to launch pads and ammunition depots used to infiltrate militants into Indian territory.

India’s robust military preparedness, combined with rapid air defence responses, not only prevented significant damage but also signaled a clear and decisive message: any aggression will be met with a proportional and effective response.
