An Indian all-party parliamentary delegation led by senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament Ravi Shankar Prasad concluded a significant and impactful visit to Italy, marking a key milestone in India’s diplomatic outreach against global terrorism. The delegation has now departed for Copenhagen, Denmark, on the next leg of its European mission aimed at reinforcing India’s unwavering stand against terrorism and those who support or facilitate such acts.
During their stay in Rome, the nine-member delegation engaged in wide-ranging discussions with senior Italian officials, strategic experts, think tanks, media representatives, and members of the Indian diaspora. These interactions underscored India’s policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism, particularly cross-border terrorism facilitated by Pakistan, and its firm commitment to international cooperation in combating global terror threats.
The Indian delegation held productive meetings with Maria Tripodi, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy; Senator Giulio Tremonti; and members of the Foreign Affairs and European Commission in the Chamber of Deputies. In a social media post, Prasad highlighted the “enriching interactions” and the “common understanding” between India and Italy on issues of global terrorism. He emphasized that both nations reiterated their shared commitment to work collaboratively for global peace and stability.
Echoing this sentiment, Undersecretary Tripodi described her exchange with the Indian delegation as constructive, noting that Italy and India are united by a strategic partnership and a shared resolve to confront common global challenges.
The delegation also met with Senator Giulio Terzi, President of the India-Italy Parliamentary Friendship Group, further cementing the strategic importance of the bilateral relationship. Both sides discussed avenues to enhance cooperation across political, strategic, and economic domains.
In addition to official engagements, the delegation interacted with leading Italian think tanks and media representatives, briefing them on India’s counter-terrorism strategies, including Operation Sindoor and the country’s new paradigm of zero tolerance. The delegation also addressed key themes in India-Italy relations and the growing potential for bilateral cooperation.
The Indian diaspora in Italy was another focal point of the visit. Delegates appreciated the community’s role in fostering strong ties with their homeland and shared India’s firm resolve to combat terrorism in all its forms.
The bipartisan nature of the delegation lent added weight to India’s message. The team includes prominent leaders such as Daggubati Purandeswari (BJP), Priyanka Chaturvedi (Shiv Sena-UBT), Ghulam Ali Khatana (BJP), Amar Singh (Congress), Samik Bhattacharya (BJP), M. Thambidurai (AIADMK), former Union Minister M.J. Akbar, and former Ambassador Pankaj Saran.
As the delegation heads to Denmark, it is expected to engage with Danish parliamentarians, political leaders, media, and the Indian community to further communicate India’s position on global terrorism and explore enhanced collaboration in addressing shared security concerns.
