Singapore, July 19 (IANS) – The Indian Navy concluded a successful port call to Singapore on Saturday, with four frontline warships — INS Delhi, INS Satpura, INS Shakti, and INS Kiltan — participating as part of the Eastern Fleet’s operational deployment to Southeast Asia. Under the command of Rear Admiral Susheel Menon, the visit underscored India’s continued commitment to enhancing maritime security and strategic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

Over the course of the visit (July 16–19), the Indian naval contingent engaged in professional exchanges with the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), academic discussions, and community outreach programmes, reinforcing longstanding bilateral naval ties.

Highlighting the importance of regional cooperation, the Indian delegation visited the Information Fusion Centre (IFC) in Singapore on Friday. Discussions focused on real-time information sharing, coordinated maritime surveillance, and multilateral efforts to bolster maritime domain awareness across the Indo-Pacific.

The High Commission of India in Singapore acknowledged the success of the visit, noting its significance in deepening India-Singapore defence engagement. “As the Indian Naval Ships Delhi, Satpura, Shakti, and Kiltan led by RAdm Susheel Menon, VSM FOCEF conclude a highly successful Port Call at Singapore… the High Commission wishes the Indian Navy contingent the very best for the deployment ahead,” the mission stated on X.

This port call marks another milestone in over three decades of India-Singapore naval cooperation, which includes joint exercises, reciprocal training programmes, and regular high-level engagements. It aligns with India’s ‘Act East’ policy, aimed at promoting regional stability, security, and cooperative dialogue in the Indo-Pacific.

The visit also coincided with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar’s official trip to Singapore, where he held strategic talks with the country’s top leadership on issues including trade, regional security, and digital innovation. Calling the bilateral relationship a “model partnership,” Jaishankar reiterated the growing convergence between the two nations across key areas such as defence, cybersecurity, digital economy, and supply chain resilience.

As geopolitical dynamics continue to evolve, the India-Singapore strategic maritime partnership remains pivotal to upholding a rules-based order and ensuring peace and stability across the Indo-Pacific.
