Ajith Kumar’s Sankranthi release Viswasam turned out to be a massive blockbuster in Tamilnadu.
It has set a new record for a film that was released exclusively in Tamil. Ajith bounced back with Viswasam when he was going through lean phase in his career.
Despite resounding success in Tamil, the film had to wait for many days to see the light in Telugu states. Viswasam Telugu dubbed version is finally hitting the marquee on March 1.
The film’s dubbing rights were sold for Rs. 2.6 crore, which is very low compared to other Tamil biggies. Even Ajith’s previous film Vivekam was bagged for Rs. 5.5 crore.
Given Ajith’s poor track record in Telugu states, our buyers didn’t fall for its thumping success in Tamilnadu.
Sad thing is Viswasam is releasing in Telugu after its original was officially released online on Amazon Prime. It may affect Viswasam’s business in Telugu states to an extent.
