Just in case you are not aware, Jallikattu happens to be a traditional sport which involves a group of bulls let loose and men trying to catch them. However, the authorities don’t see it as a sport and deem it an immoral activity.
This has led to some tensions in the Chittoor district where Jallikattu is observed strongly from many decades. Apparently, the police is asking for a ban on the sport but the people are not caring. Reports say the police is threatening they will file cases but in vain.
Jallikattu is high in Tamil Nadu but that culture has its influence in Chittoor since it is on the border. But those who take part in the sport have a logic. They say “We only catch them, we don’t torture or kill them. If that is the case you should ban the many Kabelas in our country.
Cows are being taken there illegally and slaughtered into pieces and sold everywhere.” Discussions are happening on Facebook as well regarding this. The other topic is, cock fights are wrong. For this, the counter is ‘Can chicken be banned?’.
And someone else said ‘Don’t fly kites, birds will get hurt’ and he was ripped off by everyone on the forum asking him to go and demand stoppage of killing of sheep during Bakrid. That’s the story!
