Iran Warns US of Retaliation Amid Trump’s Threats Over Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has issued a strong warning to the United States, stating that Iran will respond in kind if its infrastructure is targeted in any potential attacks.

Baghaei said that Iran’s armed forces have made it clear that any strike on Iranian infrastructure would be met with reciprocal action against similar infrastructure linked to the United States or facilities associated with what Tehran describes as acts of aggression.

The statement comes in response to recent remarks and threats from US President Donald Trump, who warned of possible military action if Iran does not agree to a deal with Washington aimed at de-escalating tensions and addressing issues surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

In an interview with Axios, Trump said there is a “good chance” of reaching an agreement but cautioned that failure to do so could lead to severe military consequences. He also suggested that discussions were ongoing and a deal could still be reached before the deadline.

Earlier, on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump had issued a stern warning, stating that the United States could target Iran’s critical infrastructure if demands were not met. He set a deadline for Tehran to either reach an agreement or open the Strait of Hormuz, warning of major disruptions if it failed to comply.

Trump’s posts included aggressive rhetoric, referring to potential strikes on energy and civil infrastructure in Iran and describing a possible escalation if negotiations failed. He also claimed that Iran’s infrastructure had already suffered damage and urged Tehran to act before further consequences unfold.

The exchange highlights rising tensions between Washington and Tehran, with both sides issuing strong statements amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty surrounding the region and the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
