Is there any solution for the Jagan-Nimmagadda controversy?

AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the AP State Chief Election Commissioner are not backing off from their stand in the commencement of local body polls. This controversy turned awful and is insulting for both the AP Government and the SEC at different stages. To be frank, people are finding faults at both ends.

It all started when Nimmagadda decided to postpone the local body polls in the wake of COVID Pandemic in March. Later, Jagan took it to the next level as the YSRCP leaders personally targeted Nimmagadda and polictised the issue by making some caste-based allegations on the SEC. They even dared to terminate him from the post by passing a G.O which was termed as unconstitutional by the High Court.

Of course, one cannot forget that Nimmagadda should’ve consulted the government before the postponement of the polls. But, being an autonomous body, the Election Commission took decisions on its own and stood by it till the end and Nimmagadda experienced all the struggle on behalf of the SEC. Of course, that was next level targeting from the ruling party.

Now, everything came down to the right wire when the court ordered the SEC to discuss with the government before conducting the local body polls on their intended time period. But, Nimmagadda, arranged an all party meeting which was strictly boycotted by the YSRCP. Here a massive insult happened to the SEC and Nimmagadda may use all his power with this effect.

The problem here is not about the respective stands of either Jaganmohan Reddy or Nimmagadda. It is surprising that both sides ignore the fact that the systems are permanent but not the individuals. This is nothing but setting a bad example for the future generations and the functioning of the organisations with a proper protocol.

With the sole advantage of sitting in the post given by the Indian constitution, there is no point in Nimmagadda clashing with the Government. Sitting in the position of CM and slandering Nimmagadda is not up to the level of Chief Minister Jagan. Hence, Jagan being the man with dignity and honour should opt to discuss with Nimmagadda in person and already it seems the CA of his office has made this move and let’s see how this battle goes or hopefully ends.
