It was an anti-climax of sorts. While everyone in the TRs expected CM KCR to make the much-anticipated announcement that his son KTR would be the next CM, KCR surprised everyone by firmly saying that those who talk about changing the CM would be firmly dealt with. He said he would continue to be the CM for another 10 years and that there would be no change of CM.
His strong outburst at the party meet has left the party leaders in utter confusion. Sources also say that KCR has had separate one-on-one meetings with ministers like Padma Rao, Errabelli Dayakar Rao and others. During these meets, he reportedly chided them for raking up the issue of CM change. Interestingly, who raised the issue of CM change? Who actually gave leaks to the media? Who remained silent all these days when the leaders were talking of CM change?
The party leaders are unable to understand why KCR suddenly shelved the idea of making KTR the CM after allowing the party leaders to talk about KCR. Insiders say that KCR was worried that the BJP has some strong evidences against KTR and might use it once he is made CM. Hence KCR decided to remain a CM. Some others feel that in view of the gathering of anti-incumbency storm, KCR may have decided to insulate his son. He wants to take the anti-incumbency by its horns and give power to KTR only when things look brighter. Otherwise, KTR’s image would be completely tarnished by 2023, where there would be election to Telangana assembly.
