Ever since AP state government has removed Ashok Gajapathi Raju as chairman of MANSAS (Maharaja Alak Narayana Society of Arts and Science) trust and issued a GO 74, dated March 3, 2020, appointing Ms. Sanchaita Gajapati as chairperson, the issue has kicked up a storm. The state government-led by AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has passed orders appointing Sanchaita as the Chairperson of Simhachalam Devasthanam & MANSAS Trust. This naturally hasn’t gone down well with Ashok Gajapathi Raju and family.
For beginners, Sanchaita Gajapati is the daughter of Uma Gajapathi Raju and Anand Gajapathi Raju. However, Sanchaita’s mother Uma took divorce from Anand Gajapathi Raju in 1991. Now, Ashok Gajapati Raju’s family is going to move the High Court over the appointment of Sanchaita and the intervention of state government.
Former Union Minister and senior leader of TDP Ashok Gajapati Raju, who is back from New Delhi, has responded on the issue and opined that State Governemnt’s intervention into the Trust isn’t welcoming. He found fault with the state government and stated that his family would knock the doors of the court seeking stay on the appointment of Sanchaita Gajapathi Raju as the Chairperson of Simhachalam Devasthanam & MANSAS Trust.
MANSAS Trust
The MANSAS trust, along with the Endowments Department, manages and controls 108 temples, including Simhachalam Devasthanam.Over 14,800 acres of costliest lands in Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts are under the control of MANSAS trust. The trust also looks after several educational institutions including MR College, and MVGR College of Enginnering. Ashok Gajapathi Raju alleges that there is a bigger conspiracy in removing him as the Chairman of the Trust abruptly. He said not even show cause notices were served to him. He alleged that costliest lands under Trust’s purview are in risk. He alleged that it is conspiracy to get hold of the costliest lands of trust. He further found fault with state government over the manner in which GO was issued in the late night. He also said the GO 74 is not released publicly. Ashok Gajapathi Raju said all these are raising several suspicions.
Raising serious concern over Sanchaita’s religion, Ashok Gajapathi Raju said appointing a person from another religion as Trust Board Chairperson that controls about 108 Hindu Temples send wrong signals to people. He said the donated lands to the Trust belong to Trust itself and state government has no control over them. He expressed that the Trust’s motto is to serve several children and now these unwanted situations would affect the functions of Trust causing damage to the careers and future of children. He said he would take a legal route to fight against state government’s intervention.
Differences in Family
All is not well between the families of Ashok Gajapati Raju and Ananda Gajapati Raju in the last few years. After death of Ananda Gajapati Raju, the differences widened and families of both brothers are at loggerheads. Ashok Gajapathi Raju’s daughter Aditi Gajapathi Raju is currently director of the board While Ashok Gajapathi Raju was the chairman of the trust since 2016. Right during general elections 2019, Sanchaita had come into limelight and campaigned for the BJP in the State.
