Jagan Drops Naidu’s Iconic Bridge

Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy had dropped yet another big plan of his predecessor Chandrababu Naidu, in the Amaravati package.

The new chief minister had dropped the iconic bridge across river Krishna connecting Hyderabad highway with Amaravati.

The original National Highway bridge across the river was redesigned by Chandrababu Naidu reflecting the State’s prestigious Kuchipudi dance form.

The bridge which was initially estimated to cost Rs 515 crore had gone up to Rs 1000 crore or little more, with the new design.

The State was asked to bear the extra cost by the National Highways Authority of India.

Now, with empty coffers greeting, Jaganmohan Reddy is resorting to the cost cutting, the chief minister had dropped the iconic bridge proposal and asked the NHAI to complete the project as per their designs.

The bridge is part of the by-pass road planned a decade ago from Gundugolanu in West Godavari to Kaza in Guntur district passing through Gollapudi. The land acquisition too was completed 10 years ago and compensation was paid.

The farmers of Venkatapalem in the capital Amaravati, went to the court 10 years ago against the acquisition but lost the case and accepted the compensation.

However, the bridge and the by-pass remained a distant dream for all these years, with the successive state governments changing the plans.

Now, Jaganmohan Reddy government had taken a firm decision to allow the NHAI to build the bridge as per its plans, dropping the iconic plans of Chandrababu Naidu.
