Jagan plan: Attack is the best form of defence

Normally, in any government, it is the opposition party which targets the ruling party every day by pointing out irregularities in any programme and making allegations of corruption in the implementation of every scheme. And the ruling party is always on the defensive side both inside and outside the legislature.

However, it appears to be completely reverse in the YSR Congress party government headed by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

When the YSRC was in opposition, it used to attack the then Telugu Desam Party government led by N Chandrababu Naidu, making allegations of corruption in every scheme that he had launched and also every decision that he had taken, like developing capital city at Amaravati.

Since YSRC came to power now, it is generally expected that the TDP will go offensive against the Jagan government.

Though the TDP leaders and their president N Chandrababu Naidu are attacking the YSRC government day in and day out, they are more on the defensive mode than on the offensive.

For, since the day one, Jagan has been taking up an aggressive attack on the TDP in general and Naidu in particular.

Starting with exposing corruption in the construction of Praja Vedika, which he had got demolished within a week of coming to power, Jagan has been dishing out one weapon or the other to attack Naidu, pushing him into the defence mode.

Whether it was insider trading in Amaravati land dealings or Polavaram tenders or Veligonda tunnel works, the Jagan government has been pointing out irregularities on a regular basis and appointing committees to conduct further probes.

The TDP leaders are being forced to spend their time and energy on countering these allegations.

The latest constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of police officers to probe into irregularities in all the decisions taken by the Naidu government is a big blow to the TDP chief. If the SIT has its way, it may summon even Naidu every day for questioning.

Similarly, the disclosure of Vigilance and Enforcement department’s report on the multi-crore ESI procurement scam involving former TDP ministers K Atchannaidu and Pithani Satyanarayana has also pushed the TDP to corner. They are now struggling to wriggle out of these scams.

“It is a different matter whether the charges against the TDP leaders are proved or not, but the objective of the whole strategy of Jagan is to show to the world that Naidu and his party leaders had indulged in massive corruption during their regime,” an analyst said.
