Jagan Slams Govt Over Revival of Parakamani Case

YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Chandrababu Naidu government, alleging that the Parakamani case at Tirumala is being deliberately revived for political gains despite having been settled legally years ago.

Speaking to the media, Jagan termed the Parakamani controversy “a case built on astonishing exaggeration,” claiming that the accused had allegedly misappropriated the equivalent of just nine US dollars, yet surrendered assets worth ₹14 crore to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) as part of a repentance-based settlement.

He stated that once the accused was identified, a criminal case was filed, a chargesheet was submitted in the Tirupati court, and the matter was closed through the Mega Lok Adalat.
“After judicial proceedings concluded, the government is now dragging the case back into public discourse purely for political mileage,” he alleged.

Jagan added that the accused clerk had worked for years in Parakamani operations and had also been attached to the Jeeyar Mutt. Recalling the reforms introduced during his tenure, he said the YSRCP government made Tirumala’s hundi counting process fully transparent by installing CCTV cameras at every counting point.

Accusing the present government of pushing the accused to his death, Jagan said, “Is it a crime to catch a thief who is stealing? Turning that into an allegation against us is nothing but political manipulation.”

Pointing to past incidents, he referred to a major theft during Chandrababu Naidu’s earlier tenure at the Simhachalam temple. He alleged that although Naidu had publicly named temple staffers Ramana and Suresh as suspects on September 1, both were granted station bail and released.
“Why were they not arrested and sent to jail? Why was there no full investigation? Why were their assets not seized?” he asked.

Jagan also questioned why Simhachalam temple trustee Ashok Gajapathi Raju was never interrogated.
“Is there one standard of justice for Subba Reddy and another for Ashok Gajapathi Raju?” he said, accusing the ruling coalition of pursuing selective action driven by political bias.
