Jagan’s Claims on People-Friendly Policing Spark Backlash

Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy made unexpected remarks today regarding his government’s track record with the police force. He claimed that during his tenure, the police maintained a “people-friendly” approach and resolved issues for the public, including those belonging to opposition parties like the TDP and Janasena.

Speaking at a press conference, Jagan stated, “Our police functioned with pride and respect. Through reforms and initiatives like the Spandana program, they effectively addressed public grievances.” He further claimed, “More complaints from TDP supporters were resolved compared to those from YSRCP supporters. Even the district collectors extended help to them.”

However, Jagan’s statements have triggered sharp reactions on social media. Many netizens and critics reminded that his tenure was marred by allegations of police misuse, especially against political opponents. Several incidents, including the controversial arrest of Dr. Sudhakar, the high-profile arrest of then YSRCP MP Raghurama Krishnam Raju, and cases against numerous TDP and Janasena leaders, raised serious concerns about the police acting with political bias.

Opposition leaders argue that rather than being genuinely “people-friendly,” the police under Jagan’s rule were often accused of favoring the YSRCP. His recent comments have therefore reignited debate on the impartiality and conduct of the police during his regime.
